1. Sinclair Lewis was the first American to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. (1930) He received this prize to honor his collection of work, including his novels, Arrowsmith and Babbitt. When accepting the prize, he gave a speech that outlined his early years, sharing that he had traveled, attended Yale, and wrote as a journalist and then a storyteller poking fun at America, which intrigued readers. At the time of receiving the award, he did not seem to feel the first 46 years of his life were particularly special, and he planned to settle down to write more.
2. Mr. Lewis's first name was actually Harry.
