The Patchwork Doll

I Need a Patch for That Day

Reading Comprehension for May 21

Macy was at her Grandmother Brown's house. She was looking at some pictures.

"Look, Grandma," she said. "Who is in this picture?"

"Why, child, this is a picture of me. I was a little girl then. I was only twelve years old."

"You have a doll," Macy said. "Your doll looks funny. What kind of doll is it?"

"It is a patchwork doll," her grandmother said. "My mother made it for me."

"Oh," Macy said. She looked at some more pictures.

"Grandma, I like your dress in this picture," she said.

Her grandmother smiled. She said, "I liked it, too. I wore it on my first day of school."

"And look at this dress! It is very red. It is so pretty," Macy said.

"I wore that dress to my sixth birthday party."

"This shirt has a daisy on it," Macy said. "I like it, too."
