Do you know who the vice president of the United States is? Do you know what the vice president of the U.S. does? How does a person become vice president? As long as there has been a president in America, there has been a vice president, or as some people call him, a "veep."


While many men have been vice president, only one served who was not elected to the office. That man was Gerald Ford, and Veep Day was named in his honor.


Former President Gerald Ford grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A star football player in college, he earned a law degree from Yale University in 1941. After that, he joined the Navy to fight in the South Pacific during World War II.
