Alcoholism is a disease that affects more than just the alcoholic person. The lives of family and friends are also deeply affected. Al-Anon Family Groups is an international fellowship that gives relatives and friends of alcoholics a chance to share experiences at regular meetings. Meetings are usually listed in the local newspaper or can be found listed online. Al-Anon is a worldwide support system!


Al-Anon was created in 1951 by Lois Wilson, whose husband, Bill, founded Alcoholics Anonymous. Ms. Wilson realized that spouses and other loved ones needed help, too. Al-Anon uses the Twelve Steps from Alcoholics Anonymous. It also has its own simple slogans such as "Live and let live."
