A lot of connections have to be made with each number from 0 to 10. Young students have to practice counting objects, writing and recognizing written numbers, and associating those numbers with their spelled counterparts. This ensures they have a solid understanding of the numbers themselves so they can use their knowledge to progress in mathematics.

Students can count objects and write the number. Students who need more support could trace the number, while more proficient students could write the number from memory. You can make the activity more challenging by showing two dotted numbers, and students have to trace the one that correctly represents the number of items displayed.
