Farmer McClucken has eggs to deliver. Multiply with area models to help him figure out how many eggs he needs to load into his truck for each order.

An area model is a way to solve multiplication problems. For example, in 23 x 15, first draw a box and divide it with one horizontal line and one vertical line to create four smaller boxes. Across the top, write 20 and 3, because 23 = 20 + 3. Down the side, write 10 and 5, because 15 = 10 + 5. Next, multiply each number on the top by each number on the side and write the result inside the corresponding smaller box. When you finish, you get four partial products: 200, 30, 100, and 15. Add them together to get the answer: 345. Now you know how to multiply with area models. Off you go to help Farmer McClucken!
