The worksheet titled "Find the Hidden Words in a String of Jumbled-Up Letters" features multiple lines of jumbled letters. Each line of jumbled letters is hiding a word. Students find the word and then circle it in the line of random letters.

Lower elementary worksheets include pictures and fewer letters. Some worksheets include both pictures and strings of letters. Higher grade levels only feature strings of letters. Strings of letters are designed to be tricky, so students must look carefully. For example, a string of letters might include the correct spelling of "know" as well as "knwo" with other letters in between.

Each puzzle is divided by a dashed line so students can separate each line of letters easily. They can also be cut, and students can complete one at a time before a lesson or as a small group.

It isn't uncommon for students to mix up the letters in a word as they're learning how to spell. You can encourage them to think more deeply about letter order by having them identify the correct spelling of words.

Puzzles and brainteasers can be a fun way for students to practice paying attention to letter order. For example, you can give them a string of jumbled-up letters, and they have to find the correct spelling of a word. You can make it extra tricky by including incorrect spellings of common words. For example, in a string of letters where students must find the word "farther," you could also include "father" to encourage them to look closely.

Other activities that encourage word recognition include word finds, word bingo, and missing letter puzzles.
