1     Zachary Taylor was our twelfth president. He was born in 1784. He was born in Virginia. His family moved to Kentucky when he was very young. This is where he grew up. He loved plantations. He had a cotton plantation in Mississippi. Taylor was an officer in the Army. He was in the Army for 40 years. His nickname was "Old Rough and Ready." This was because of the way he fought. Taylor was not a politician. The first election he ran in was the one for president. He had never even voted in a national election. Northern voters liked him because he was in the Army .....
