Buy! Sell! All About Stocks

1     There's a big building downtown. It's a shoe company. I own it! Well, I own part of it. I'm a shareholder in the company. I own some of the company's stock.
 
2     Sometimes companies want to grow and expand. This takes money. When they do not have enough money to grow on their own, they sell stock. A stock, or share, is a part of a company that can be purchased by the public. When a person buys stock in a company, he is making an investment. Each share costs a certain amount of money. When the company is successful, the price of its stock goes up. When the company is not doing well, the price of its stock goes down. Stockholders try to buy shares when the price is low and sell them when the price is high. When they do this .....
