Pol Pot

By Vickie Chao
1     The Kingdom of Cambodia, or simply Cambodia, is a beautiful country with an extremely sad modern history. In the 1970s, the entire nation was engulfed in a genocide that wiped out nearly a quarter of its population. Pol Pot, head of the state at that time, was the very person who carried out this horrific act against humanity. During his short reign of three years as the prime minister, about two million people died, and countless more were brutally tortured.

2     What inspired Pol Pot to commit such a despicable crime?

3     Before answering that question, we first need to know a thing or two about the man himself.
