An Extra Special Valentine
By Mary Lynn Bushong 1 "Can we buy valentine cards this year, Mom?" asked Amy. 2 "I'm afraid not, sweetie," said Mom sadly. "We just do not have money for extra things like that right now. I have lots of construction paper saved. We also have glue, glitter, and paper doilies. You could use them to make some pretty cards for your friends." 3 "I guess so," said Amy. She did not feel very happy about it. All of her friends were going to give cards with the latest characters from movies or with pop stars on them. They were not her favorites, but at least they were not homemade. 4 That evening after supper, Mom cleared the kitchen table. She got out her collection of craft supplies and laid them on the table. 5 Amy could feel ideas for card designs trickling in from her imagination. Maybe the cards would look okay.
