Veep Day

By Mary Lynn Bushong
1     Do you know who the vice president of the United States is? Do you know what the vice president of the U.S. does? How does a person become vice president? As long as there has been a president in America, there has been a vice president, or as some people call him, a "veep."

2     While many men have been vice president, only one served who was not elected to the office. That man was Gerald Ford, and Veep Day was named in his honor.

3     Former President Gerald Ford grew up in Grand Rapids, Michigan. A star football player in college, he earned a law degree from Yale University in 1941. After that, he joined the Navy to fight in the South Pacific during World War II.
