1     Have you heard the tale of the pied piper? They say that more than 600 years ago, on July 22, a man came to Hamelin, Germany. The town had a rat problem. They needed help. The mayor vowed to pay any price! The man known only as the pied piper got rid of the rats. Once the rats were gone, the mayor did not keep his promise. Then, the pied piper was angry, and he . . .

What does "pied" mean?
It is not a person who has been hit with pies.
It is not eating too much pie.
It means there are two or more colors.
In this case, it means the piper was dressed in a coat of two colors. A poet once wrote that the piper's coat was half yellow and half red.
