Super Salad Sunday

By Brenda B. Covert
Sally Sanders welcomed weekends, especially Sundays. That is when she served salad to diners. She called it Super Salad Sunday. Sally's salads were a tasty treat. She was skilled at tossing tasty salads. Everyone loved Sally's salads!

One Sunday, one diner asked for something else.

"Do you have any burgers?" the boy asked.

Sally shook her head. "Today is Super Salad Sunday," she said. "We have salads."

"Do you have pizza?" he asked.

Sally put her finger on his menu. "Not on Sunday," she said. "See? It says right here that we only serve salads on Sunday."

"I don't like salad," the boy said. "You must have something else."

Sally almost passed out. How could anyone dislike salad?

"I would rather eat a cricket than a salad," the boy said. He leaned back and folded his arms across his chest.

Sally was upset. "I don't serve crickets to diners!" she cried. "I simply serve salads!"

Then she had an idea. "Maybe you are like that Dr. Seuss person who didn't like green eggs and ham. Once he tried them, he liked them very much! Would you like to try a few of my salads?"

The boy looked at the menu. He looked at the other diners. He looked at the table. Then, he looked at Sally. "All right," he said. "I will sample your salads."

Sally called for some salad. A server came and sat seven salads on the table. Sally handed the boy a fork. "Try some salad. I think you'll like it!"
