By Brenda B. Covert
It was a sunny day. The sky was very blue with a few wispy, white clouds. The bright light made the yellow and orange leaves glow like sun catchers. Mrs. Redman pointed to the trees. She wanted her children to see how pretty the trees were at that time of year.
"Yes, Mom, they're very pretty," Dane said without looking. "I'm hungry. Can we get burgers on the way home from school?"
"Yeah, or tacos?" Dane's little sister added, pulling off her light jacket. Carly's favorite foods were tacos and nachos, although she wouldn't turn her nose up at a cheeseburger.
Mrs. Redman sighed. Why couldn't her son and daughter love nature as much as she did? How much did they know about the changing seasons? She decided to find out.
At the next stoplight, Mrs. Redman turned toward the back seat. "Do you kids know the names of the four seasons?"
Then it became quiet in the back seat. The children had only recalled three seasons.
