Maria and Gwen
By Brenda B. Covert
1 Miss Hand had a house. It was yellow with a blue door. Orange flowers bloomed in the garden. The yellow house sat between two white houses. One house had a red door. A girl named Maria lived there. She had a little dog called Max. The other house had a green door. Gwen lived there with a pup called Alfie. Miss Hand saw the girls every day.
2 Both girls walked their dogs. Maria used a leash. She scooped and bagged Max's dog poo. Gwen let Alfie run free. He left poo in other yards. He dug in Miss Hand's garden.
3 One day Maria was late for class. She ran on the sidewalk. Then Gwen was late. She ran across the other yards.
