Whose Fault?
By Kathleen W. Redman

Dylan has two brothers. They are twins named Tony and Tommy. They are three years old. Most of the time Dylan likes them. But not today. Today he wanted to play basketball with his friends. His mother wanted him to take the twins to the park. How could he play basketball with the twins there?
"But, Mom," he said, "it isn't fair. I want to play basketball today. Jean has a team, and I have a team. They need me!"
"I'm sorry, Dylan," his mother said. "I know you want to play. I have to be at the doctor's office at two o'clock. Maybe it will not take long. You can play when I get back."
Dylan was upset. The game was supposed to start at 1:30. He knew his mother would not be back in time. He would not be able to play at all. His team would be mad at him. Well, there was nothing he could do about it.
His mother got the twins ready to go. Tony took hold of one of Dylan's hands. Tommy took hold of the other. They weren't so bad, but Dylan didn't want to take them right now.
"Okay, boys," his mother said. "You be good for Dylan. Do what he tells you to do. He will take good care of you. I will be back soon."
"Okay, Mama," the twins said together. "We will be good."
Dylan went across the street with the twins. They walked on the sidewalk to the park. Dylan's team was already there.
"Hey, Dylan!" Dan said. "What's up? Why do you have Tony and Tommy? I thought you wanted to play basketball."
"I do," Dylan said, "but Mom has to go to the doctor. I have to take care of them."
"Dylan, Dylan," the twins said. They pulled on his shirt. "Dylan, we want to go play on the swings. Can we go play on the swings? Can we, Dylan? Dylan! Dylan!"
Dylan was trying to think. What could he do?
