If You Give a Manatee a Cookie...
By Colleen Messina

1     You might have heard the story called If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. The main idea of the story is simple: if you give a mouse a cookie, he will want a glass of milk. After that, he will want other things! This idea applies to wild animals. Wild animals should not be fed cookies or other human food. They will want more human food. This is not good for them.

2     A manatee is a large sea animal. There are not many manatees left. They are an endangered species. Manatees can weigh between 800 and 1,200 pounds. Manatees live in water. They can live in fresh water. They can live in salt water or brackish water. They like to eat sea grass. They eat other plants, too. These green plants are good for them.
