Food As Fuel
By Erin Horner

1     I love pizza. I also love ice cream and anything made with chocolate. I could eat pizza, ice cream, and chocolate all day long! But if I did, I would feel sick. My stomach would start to grumble, and before long my whole body would feel awful. If foods like pizza, ice cream, and chocolate taste so good, why can't we eat them all the time?
2     Food is the fuel for our bodies. It provides us with the energy that we need to make it throughout the day. Food also helps to supply our bodies with vitamins and other nutrients. This is why it is so important to eat many different kinds of healthy foods each and every day. Think about your family's car. If every day your mom and dad put gunk in the gas tank, what would happen? Eventually, your car would stop working. The engine would no longer run. Your car would sputter out, and you would no longer be able to drive places. Food for our bodies is a lot like gas for your family's car. If you only put junk into your body's fuel tank, then your body will not be able to work very well.
