Smoking Hot Basketball
By Mary Lynn Bushong

"Hey, Tony, wait up," Andy said as he ran to catch up with his friend. "That was a pretty good basketball practice this afternoon, wasn't it? I made almost seventy percent of my free throws. That's a lot better than when we started the season."
"Yeah, I think I am getting better, too. I've been working on my shot at home whenever I can, and it is starting to pay off," Tony said.
"I don't have a very good place to practice at my house. Do you think I could come over sometime and practice with you?" Andy asked. "I need all the help I can get. I'm hoping to make first string soon."
"Sure, that would be great. I think Coach is really close to putting us both on first string," Tony said as he adjusted his book bag on his shoulder. "I'm trying to do whatever I can do to improve."
"Maybe I could come over after supper tonight. Do you think that would work?" Andy asked.
"Yeah, that would be great. I'll see you then."
Andy turned the corner and headed up the street to his house after giving Tony a quick wave goodbye. It would be fantastic to get some extra practice time in. If he could increase his shooting average, he was sure the coach would promote him to first string.
Andy finished his homework just as Mom called him down to supper. "Mom, I would like to go over to Tony's house after we eat. He has a basketball court, and he offered to let me practice with him. Would that be okay?"
