Sodium
By Kathleen W. Redman

1     WHAT IS SODIUM?
Sodium is a mineral found in many foods. It is most often associated with salt. Most people enjoy the way that table salt enhances the flavor of foods.

2     HOW DOES IT AFFECT THE BODY?
Sodium is an important part of your diet. It does many things that are helpful to your body. It helps maintain a good balance of fluids in your body. It helps your nerves and muscles work the way they should.

3     Your body only needs a very small amount of sodium each day. Just one teaspoon of salt has more sodium than most people need in a day. So adding a little salt here and a little salt there can add up quickly. Before you know it, you've added way more than your body needs.
