A New Kitten

Dan made a big black "X" on the calendar. "There!" he said to his father. "Tomorrow I will get my kitten!"

Dan's father nodded. "We will go to Pat's house tomorrow. You will pick out your new kitten there."

That night Dan could hardly go to sleep. He was so excited about getting a new kitten. The next morning he woke up early.

"Dad! Dad!" he called as he ran into the kitchen. "It's time to get my new kitten!"

His father smiled. "This is the day. It is too early, though. Wait one more hour. Then it will be time to go."

Dan sat down and ate his breakfast. He went to his room and got dressed. Then he ran back to the kitchen. His father was reading a newspaper.

"Is it time yet?" Dan asked his father.

"No, not yet," his father said. He looked at his watch. "Wait half an hour. Then it will be time to go."

Dan ran outside. He climbed to the top of the slide. Down he went! He climbed the ladder and went down the slide four more times.

Dan ran back into the kitchen. His father was still reading the newspaper. "Dad! Dad!" Dan said. "Is it time yet?"

His father looked at his watch. "No, not yet," his father said. "It will be time in ten more minutes."

Dan went to the closet. He got out his jacket. He put it on. He put on his gloves. He put on his cap. He went back into the kitchen. His father was putting on his jacket.

"Well, Dan, it's time to get your kitten," his father said.
