A Penny for Your Thoughts

Dean stood by the door of the bank. He had $25.00 in his hand. He was not sure what to do with it. His father wanted him to put it in a savings account. Dean wanted to spend it on Spider-Man books. His father said he should save it for something more important. "Well, what's more important than Spider-Man books?" Dean thought.

As he stood there waiting for his father, he thought about some of Spidey's great deeds. He was a real hero! Dean really wanted to be just like him. Maybe someday he would be able to crawl up walls. He could see himself climbing right up the bank wall . . .

"Young man. Young man!" a voice said right beside Dean. "Young man, you need to move over," said the voice. "You're blocking the door!"

Dean was lost in his thoughts about being like his hero. The voice made him jump. "Oh, sorry," he said. "You scared me."

The security guard laughed. "It's okay. You stopped in front of the door. Some other people needed to go through it. You were really thinking hard about something. A penny for your thoughts."

Dean's face turned pink. He felt silly telling the guard about Spidey. "I was thinking about Spider-Man and climbing up this wall."

"Were you and Spidey going to break into the safe and steal all the money?" the guard asked.

"No," Dean said. "I was pretending to be Spider-Man," he said. "I know it sounds silly to you, but he is my hero. He would never steal."

The guard looked at Dean closely. "So you are another one," he said.
