Anne Sullivan

Anne Sullivan was Helen Keller's teacher. She taught Helen many things. Anne helped Helen learn that everything had a name. She spelled words onto Helen's hand. At first, Helen didn't understand what Anne was doing. Then one day, Helen and Anne were out by the family's water pump. Anne placed Helen's hand under the spout. The water rushed over it. Anne took Helen's other hand and spelled w-a-t-e-r. Helen got it! She was starting to understand language! Helen learned many words that day. At one point, she reached for Anne. Anne spelled t-e-a-c-h-e-r into Helen's hand. From that day on, Helen called Anne "teacher." Later, Anne taught Helen to read using Braille .....
