Apple Picking Day

It was a perfect day. The Adams family was going to the mountains in North Carolina. They were going to an orchard. There, they would pick apples.

Zach, Beth, and Mark loved apples. They could hardly wait to get there.

Finally, they were driving up the long, dusty road. It wound up the side of the mountain. Near the top was the orchard.

Many other people were at the orchard, too. There were many things to see.

First they had to get a little wagon. A basket of apples would be too heavy to carry.

Then they got two baskets. They were put in the wagon. Now they were ready to pick apples.

Zach was oldest. That meant he could pull the wagon first.

There were so many trees. Where should they start picking? Not all the apples were ripe yet. They wanted Rome apples. They were ripe.

Dad got directions. They walked down the mountain. Then they walked beside a big pond. There were ducks and geese there.

Mom pointed to some trees. They had many big, red apples.

"Look," she said. "Those are the trees we are looking for."

Zach, Beth, and Mark hurried to the nearest tree. They began to pick the apples.
