Cesar Chavez

It's hard to be a farm worker. You have to bend over to pick crops. You have to stay outside in the heat. You have to lift heavy things. You have to work many hours each day. It is tiring! Cesar Chavez knew this. He used to work on farms. He knew that farm workers worked a lot of hours but did not make a lot of money. He wanted this to change. He wanted to help the workers.

Cesar formed a union. Farm workers joined together. This group of people asked growers to treat workers better. The union wanted workers to earn more money. It also wanted them to be safe when they worked. The union wanted workers to take breaks and have clean water to drink.
