Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell was born on February 22, 1857. He was born in England. England is a country in Europe. He was named after his godfather. There were 10 children in his family. Robert was eighth. Robert's father died when he was very young. His mother taught him at home. Then, he went to school. Robert used to run away from his teachers. He would go into the woods. He would walk in the woods. He would hunt.


Robert liked to learn new skills. He played the piano. He played the fiddle. Robert and his brothers liked adventure. They sailed around the coast of England. Another time, they paddled a canoe up a river. They were looking for where it started.
