Dumbo Octopus

Dumbo the elephant was well-known for his huge ears. Like its namesake, the Dumbo octopus has what appear to be two giant ears. They are attached to the octopus's body, which resembles a huge head. The attachments aren't really ears but fins. The two fins extend from each side of the body just above the octopus's eyes.

The Dumbo octopus moves itself through the water by flapping its fins. It also swims by waving its eight webbed arms. A third way the octopus moves itself is by shooting water through a siphon on its body. The Dumbo octopus is a very good swimmer. It can speed away quickly when predators are in pursuit.
