Far Away Friends

Sam and Jake were friends. They were actually more like brothers. They first met on the day they were born. Sam was born on a rainy Monday morning. Jake was born later that night. Sam's and Jake's parents met in the hospital. They became instant friends.


After the families left the hospital, their friendship grew. The moms would get the boys together to play. They had birthday parties together. The families would have summer cookouts. They even went on vacations together. One family did not do anything without the other.


Sam and Jake liked the same things. They played soccer on the same team. They liked robots. Their favorite food was chocolate chip cookies. They liked the same movies. They liked the same games. If one discovered something new, he could not wait to share it with the other.


On the first day of kindergarten, the boys jumped for joy. They were in the same class. This was the first time that the boys discovered their differences. Sam loved reading time. Jake loved math. Sam liked to color with crayons. Jake liked to paint with brushes. Even though they liked different things, their friendship stayed the same.


The boys were in the same class again for first grade and second grade. The boys decided that they would be together forever. One day, Sam came home to find his mom and dad talking. They stopped talking when Sam came into the room. Sam knew something was up.
