Fired Up

I did not want to admit it. I did something dumb. My friend and I used matches and played with fire. We thought it was fun at first. What am I going to tell my dad? He is a volunteer fireman! He will be disappointed in me. He will be home soon. I am nervous.

My day started fine. Jessica came over to play. We went to my backyard. We have built a fort there. We like to eat snacks in there and talk. The day was a little chilly.

"I have an idea," Jessica said.

"What's that?"

"Wouldn't it be nice to have a fireplace in here?"

I looked around the small shed we had built out of scrap wood. I laughed. "There's no room!"

Jessica rolled her eyes. "Silly, I didn't mean a huge fireplace. We could just light a small fire here. We could have a pretend fireplace."

"Oh, I don't know about that," I said.
