Franklin Pierce

Franklin Pierce was the fourteenth president. He was born in New Hampshire in 1804. He went to school to study law. After this, he got involved in politics. He served in the House of Representatives. He also served in the Senate. He served in the Mexican War. This war was between the United States and Mexico. It was fought over the land that would become some of the states in the West and Southwest. It also set the border between the United States and Mexico. It was at the Rio Grande. After these successes, Pierce was nominated for president. He was a dark horse. A dark horse is a candidate that doesn't look like he will win. Then, at the end, he wins the race.
