From a Plant to a Pumpkin

The air is cool. The leaves are colorful. It is fall. And that means that it is almost time for Halloween. It also means that it is time to pick a pumpkin! Pumpkins are round and orange. But they don't start out that way. Pumpkins begin their lives as small seeds. In order for a pumpkin to grow, a seed must first be planted in the ground. These seeds must be planted in late May or early June. Within two weeks, the seed will sprout. With a little time and a lot of sun and rain, a green plant will soon begin to grow. Next a vine will appear. This vine will start to spread. It will spread all over the ground! Then yellow flowers appear on the vine. These small flowers will become pumpkins.
