Full of Dreams

Arnold was a young boy. He lived in Austria. Austria is a country in Europe. Arnold had a dream. He wanted to live in America. How would he get there?


Arnold Schwarzenegger was born on July 30, 1947. Arnold grew up in a home with both parents. They did not have a lot of money. He says that they were very strict. Arnold knew he had to listen to his parents. They went to church every Sunday.


In school, Arnold was an average student. He was known for being happy and fun. He played many sports. Arnold was on the soccer team. When Arnold was fourteen years old, he started lifting weights. His soccer coach took the team to the gym. A year later, Arnold decided to become a bodybuilder.


Arnold liked training. He trained every day. Arnold found ways to train even when the gym was not open. In Austria, there was a law. The law said that all eighteen-year-old boys must serve in the Austrian army. In 1965, Arnold left the army. He left before his year of service was over. He left to compete in a bodybuilding contest. After the contest, he spent a week in jail.


Arnold dreamed of living in the United States. He thought that winning the Mr. Universe contest would get him there. Arnold won the contest in 1967. He was twenty years old. One year later, Arnold's dream came true. He moved to the U.S.
