Generations are the many years between when people are born. Generations are not separated by one, two, or three years. They are separated by many more years. Think about members of your own family to better understand the meaning of a generation. Generations can be separated by people who were never able to play together as children. For example, you are growing up in today's world. You could not have played with your parents when they were children. They grew up decades before you. Just like when your parents were kids, they did not play with your grandparents as kids. Both your parents and your grandparents grew up in different time periods.
