How Does Soap Work?

Most of us use soap every day. We use soap to wash our hands. We use soap to wash our dishes. We use soap to wash our clothes. Soap helps us get things clean. Soap is used to remove dirt, but it needs water to do it.

Let's say that you have a dirty pan. You used it to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Now it has a thin layer of butter on it. You could wipe it off with a towel, but it would still feel greasy. You will have to wash it to really get it clean. Just using water can't remove the butter, though. You will have to use soap.
