I Wonder Why the Sky Is Blue

Sky Day

Reading Comprehension for June 30

Kelly and her brother, Jamie, were playing on their swing set.

"Look how pretty the sky is today," said Kelly. "There's not a cloud up there."

"After all the rain we have had, it's nice to see the blue sky," said Jamie.

"I wonder why the sky is blue," Kelly said as they swung back and forth.

"I don't know," said Jamie as he flew past his sister. "Maybe it reflects the color of the deep blue sea."

"Hmm, maybe," said Kelly. "Let's go ask Dad."

Jamie and Kelly jumped off their swings. They raced over to Dad, who was sitting on the porch reading the newspaper.

"Dad, why is the sky blue?" asked Jamie.

"Hey, that was my question," said Kelly, angrily.

"What does it matter who asks it," said Jamie, "as long as we get an answer?"

Kelly paused. "I guess you're right, but it was my question," she said in a quiet tone.

Dad looked over his newspaper at the children. "Do you want an answer, or are you just going to argue about the question?"
