Have you seen a charm bracelet? It is made up of several small links that are all connected together. Each link is important. If one link breaks, the entire bracelet falls apart. All living things on Earth are linked together in a similar way. They are all a part of the food chain. The food chain demonstrates how energy is transferred from one living thing to another. All living things on Earth need energy to survive. Some living things like plants and algae can make their own food. They are producers. The rest of us aren't so lucky. Humans and animals cannot create their own food. They must consume it from other sources. They are consumers. Consumers eat plants or animals to ingest the energy that they need.
