The third Monday in September is a national holiday in Japan. It is called Keiro No Hi. That means Respect for the Aged Day. It began in 1951. It started out being called Toshiyori No Hi. That means Old Folks' Day. The name was changed in 1966. It then became a national holiday.


Keiro No Hi is a day to show respect for older people. This day celebrates their long lives. People pray for health. People learn about health topics. They share ideas to help make lives better.
