What state is known as the "Bluegrass State"? Its capital is Frankfort. It is known for horse racing. It is known for college basketball. The state bird is the cardinal. The state dance is clogging. The state drink is milk. What state is it? It's Kentucky!


Kentucky is a state in the South. Tennessee borders it to the south. West Virginia and Virginia are to the east. Missouri is to the west. Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio are to the north.


Kentucky has rivers on three of its sides. It is the only state to have that. The Mississippi River is to the west. The Ohio River is to the north. The Big Sandy River is to the east. Kentucky has about 90,000 miles of streams. It has three large natural lakes. A natural lake is made by nature. Kentucky is also the home to the two largest man-made lakes east of the Mississippi River.
