Manners in a Doctor's Office

Shawn and Derek followed their grandmother into the waiting room at the doctor's office. They stood beside her as she checked in at the desk. Then she turned to the boys and leaned down to speak to them.

"You need to be on your best behavior," she told them. "There are people waiting to see the doctor. Some are sick. You don't want to make them feel worse, and you don't want to get their germs!"

"Sure, Grams," Shawn said, looking over his shoulder at the children's area.

"I'm not going to get a shot, am I?" Derek asked, tugging at his ear.

"No, Derek," his grandmother said. "You probably have an ear infection. The doctor will prescribe some pills to cure it."

Grams took a seat near the children's area. The boys went over to look at the picture books and toys. A little girl dressed in head-to-toe magenta sat in a small seat at a small round table and pressed the buttons on a colorful toy.

"I really hope I don't get a shot," Derek muttered.

"Quit worrying about it," Shawn said, picking up a plastic truck from a bin. "Here, play with this."

"Hey, you boys look alike," the little girl said with a sniff. She wiped her nose on her sleeve.

"We're twins," Shawn said as he picked up a bug book from the table.
