Caption: Model from exhibit: Feathered Dinosaurs and the Origins of Flight

Deinonychus (dahy-NON-i-kuhs) means "terrible claw." It was quite small for a dinosaur. It was about three feet tall. Its body was about nine feet long. Most of its length came from its long tail and neck. It had sharp teeth and strong back legs. Its hands were shaped for grasping prey. It was a carnivore that hunted and killed other animals for food.
