Spanish Colonies

In 1492, Columbus "found" the New World for Spain. Spain sent more ships and men to explore the new land. By 1565, Spain had a colony at St. Augustine, Florida. It also tried to start colonies in the Carolinas. By 1598, the Spanish also had colonies in the West. Spain built churches called missions and forts in Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, and California.
