Special Shoes

Ronnie had been chosen for the school basketball team! He was so excited! He could not wait to tell his father and mother. They would be so proud. He ran home from school as fast as he could.

Ronnie burst through the door shouting, "Dad! Mom! I made it! I made it!"

Ronnie's father looked up from the newspaper he was reading. "Whoa! Slow down, son," he said. "What did you make?"

"I made the basketball team! I was chosen to be on the basketball team. Isn't that the greatest thing ever? Are you proud of me? Did you think I would get it, Dad? Did you, really? Tell me the truth. Did you believe I could do it?"

"Slow down and take a breath, Ronnie. I can see that you are very excited. Tell me what happened."

Ronnie took a deep breath. He waited a few seconds before he talked. "They had tryouts for the basketball team today, Dad. We have practiced together all week. Coach Adams told us after practice today who would be on the team. I'm going to be on the team! Dana is going to be on it, too. It's going to be great!"

Ronnie's father held out his hand and shook hands with him. "I am proud of you, son," he said. He hugged Ronnie. "We will be at all of your games. Do you need anything special, or does the school give you everything?"

"Coach said the school would give us our uniforms, everything except shoes. We have to buy our own shoes. He said they are on sale at the Roundball Shop. The price is $89.50."

"Well, let's go then before they close," his father said. "You will need to try them on before we pay for them. I don't want to have to return them because they don't fit."
