Swirling Wind

You might hear about me on a weather report. I am a fierce storm. I am a column of swirling wind. The first sign of me coming is usually a dark, cloudy sky. Some people say the sky looks green or yellow before I swoosh in. My winds can be very dangerous. I can pick up cars and rip off parts of houses.

You are most likely to find me in the spring and summer. There is a strip through the middle of the United States where I am most often found. It is known as an "alley" that stretches from Texas to Iowa. The geography is just right in this area for me to form when cool, dry air masses and warm, moist air masses run into each other. Almost nowhere on Earth is safe from me, though.
