Taking Care of Leftovers

Sometimes after a big dinner, there is a lot of food left over. It is a waste to throw it away, so many people put the food in the refrigerator. Over the next few days, the food is eaten. But what is the best way to take care of this food? And how long is it safe to eat it?

Leftovers should be cooled quickly. Foods like meat and fish or food with eggs in it should be cooled right away. Put it in the refrigerator, even if it is still hot. To help the food cool faster, split it up into smaller dishes.

Don't let food sit on a counter and cool to room temperature. Warm, moist food is a great place for germs to grow. Some germs can make people very sick.
