Indiana means "Land of the Indians." It is 38th largest state. Indiana is in the Midwest. It is a Great Lakes State. Michigan is to its north. Lake Michigan is part of its border. Ohio is to its east. Kentucky is to its south. Illinois is to its west.


A famous race takes place in Indiana. It happens every May. It is called the Indianapolis 500. In 1909, four men bought some land. They built a track. It had four turns. They tested cars on it. People came to watch.
