The Easter Lily

The Easter lily is the most popular flower for Easter. This tall flower has white, trumpet-shaped blossoms. Potted Easter lilies decorate homes and churches during the holiday.

These lilies didn't originate in the USA. They were found growing in Japan. From there they were carried to other countries, including Bermuda. Eventually, they crossed into the USA.

One person who carried these lily bulbs to the US was Louis Houghton. He was an American soldier who fought in WWI. After the war ended, he returned to Oregon with a suitcase full of bulbs. He shared the bulbs with his family and friends.
