The Good Word: A Few Important E-mail Rules to Follow

Since e-mail plays such an important role in communication today, it is important to follow some basic rules to avoid embarrassing situations when using e-mail. You may not win any Nobel prizes in literature for your letter writing, but following a few simple rules for e-mail etiquette certainly can't hurt. There are probably over a hundred nit-picky rules for e-mailing, so we'll just stick to the biggies here.


First, never give out your e-mail password to anyone. Giving out your password is asking for trouble. No one but you should have access to your password.


Next, did you know that posting or forwarding of private e-mail could be a copyright infringement? It's also considered rude. Ask permission from the author before forwarding anything.
