The House of Ruth

Babe Ruth Day

Reading Comprehension for April 27

Jeff and his father were in the car. Jeff was so happy. He had a hard time sitting still.

They were going to New York City. They were going to a baseball game.

Jeff had never been to a real baseball game before. Today he would see the Yankees play.

"Jeff, sit still," his father said.

"I can't, Dad," Jeff said. "I am too happy."

Jeff's father smiled. "I am happy, too. It will be fun to see the baseball game."

"Have you been to a game before?" Jeff asked.

"Yes," his father said. "But I have never been to the House of Ruth."

"Are we going to Ruth's house? Who is she?" Jeff asked.

Jeff's father laughed.

"The House of Ruth is the name of the baseball field," he said.

"Well, who is Ruth?" Jeff wanted to know.

"He was the best baseball player ever," his father answered. "He could do everything."
