Tidal Pool

Maddy and her father went to the shore after the storm. Maddy found some shells. Maddy's dad found a sea urchin. It was a little animal. It looked like a pin cushion.

They put the sea urchin in a bucket of water to keep it safe. They had to wait for low tide to put it in the tidal pool.

Maddy and Dad were at the house. It was near the shore.

"Maddy," said Dad. "The tide has gone out now. Let's take the sea urchin to the tidal pool."

It had stopped raining. The sky was still cloudy. Dad picked up the bucket with the urchin.

"Where is the tidal pool, Dad?" asked Maddy.

"It is near those rocks just ahead," said Dad.

"Can I get into the pool?" asked Maddy.

"No," said Dad. "Tidal pools are full of ocean life. If you were to play in it, you could hurt many animals."

"Can we sit on the side and look in?" asked Maddy.

"Yes," said Dad. "I would like you to see."

There was more than one tidal pool. Some were very small. They were like deep puddles.

Dad showed Maddy where to walk. They soon came to the pool.
